Announcing ConGlomeration’s 2020 Artist Guest of Honor Melissa Gay
ConGlomeration is thrilled to announce that longtime friend-of-the-con, 2017 featured guest, and two-time Chesley Award-winner Melissa Gay will be our 2020 Artist Guest of Honor.
For those that haven’t met her yet, Melissa is a critically-acclaimed artist of speculative fiction book covers, roleplaying games, botany manuals, and even a tarot deck. Her character redesigns and imaginative realist works have been featured on ImagineFX, Infected By Art, io9 and Tor.com, and her original paintings are in the hands of private collectors around the world. Whether depicting criminal masterminds, comic book heroes, deep space, eldritch horror, child mermaids or sentient bugs, she strives to inject diversity and a touch of dreamlike wonder into all her work.

Melissa’s personal work often features colorful palettes, atmospheric haze, and the far-flung telescopic distances of space, in which she lays down marks in a stream-of-consciousness style, letting the images emerge for themselves. “Allowing ‘accidental’ marks and textures onto my canvases helps my subconscious unlock images my conscious mind never would have dreamed up.” Her paintings have been featured in the annual Infected By Art anthologies. Additionally, as co-founder of The Bird Whisperer Project, she seeks to spread the joy of bird art to any who wish to participate.
