The programs listed below will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville, KY during Easter weekend — April 19-21 — as part of ConGlomeration 2019.

If you want to spend an entire weekend main-lining anime with a few hundred fellow otaku — ConGlomeration 2019 is the place to be.

Friday, April 19

El Hazard The Wanderers anime

VIEWING: “El Hazard: The Wanderers”
12pm | Hancock
When a school experiment goes wrong, the explosion transports Makoto, Jinnai, his sister Nanami, and their teacher Mr. Fujisawa to the strange and magnificent world El Hazard. Makoto and Fujisawa land squarely in the Kingdom of Roshtaria, and quickly befriend the princess Rune Venus. Jinnai allies himself with the Bugrom, a race of giant insects bent on taking over El Hazard, while his sister tries to eke out her own living in the desert. Makoto searches desperately for a way to return home, all the while fighting off the Bugrom, enlisting the help of the elemental Holy Priestesses, and stopping the demon god Ifurita from destroying everything.

Director Shinichirō Watanabe and Composer Yoko Kanno have worked together on many anime series, most notably Cowboy Bebop. We’ll explore these series and how Kanno’s music affects the stories Watanabe creates.

“Japanese Folklore as the Key to Anime”

To fully appreciate anime you need to know the myths that much of it draws from. Travel back to a time when Japan wasn’t an island in the Pacific Ocean. We’ll talk about the gods Izanagi and Izanami and how they created the islands of Japan, along with Amaterasu, Susanoo, Tsukuyomi and many others you may have never heard of!

“War for the Grail! A Fate/101 Panel”

A bloody battle with heroes summoned from across all mythos and time. This multiverse spans a huge variety of games, anime, and alternate timelines. Join us as we try to unravel these threads of Fate.

VIEWING: “Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt Bandit Flower”

During the One Year War of U.C. 0079, the Earth Federation’s “Moore Brotherhood” and the Principality of Zeon’s “Living Dead Division” engage in a fierce battle in the “Thunderbolt Sector.” Io Fleming, a Federation Gundam pilot, and an amputee ace sniper Zeon pilot Daryl Lorenz, will clash brutally with experimental giant robot suits to the backdrop of jazz and some of the best graphics the Gundam series has yielded to date. Recommended only for late teens 18+ and adults due to adult content.

“Year to Year Guide for G1 Transformers”

The Bumblebee live-action film has reminded all of us of the glory that is G1 Transformers. Comes refresh yourself on the canon and characters of the franchise that secretly introduced many Americans to anime.

“Anthropomorphism in Anime”

Animal characters with human personalities and characteristics. Human intelligence and facial expressions, speaking, walking on two legs, and wearing clothes. All are staples of anime, and we’ll discuss as many as you can think of.

“The Record of Lodoss War”

D&D the anime? Started in the 80’s as a transcript of D&D, RoLW has spawned multiple continuations and sold over 10 million copies in Japan alone. Considered one of the original early epic story anime, come explore the saga of the Lodoss War.
