ConGlomeration 2018 Arts & Artists Program

Jhereg by Stephen HickmanConGlomeration’s 2018 Arts & Artists lineup, featuring Hugo-winning illustrator and sculptor Stephen Hickman, includes:

    • Panels and exhibitions that discuss sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and genre aesthetics
    • Workshops and panels to demonstrate artistic techniques and media
    • Interviews with professional genre artists
    • A gallery exhibition of genre art with publicly voted awards
    • A charity auction of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror art
    • Sci-Fi Pictionary

The programs listed below will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville, KY during Easter weekend — Mar. 30 to Apr. 1 — as part of ConGlomeration 2018. It all culminates in our annual Art Show, Print Shop, and Art Auction on Saturday, Mar. 31.

If you know want to spend an entire weekend immersed in multimedia sci-fi & fantasy art with a few hundred fellow artists and art-fans — ConGlomeration 2018 is the place to be.

FRIDAY, MARCH 30

'In The Cards' by Cris Griffin

1pm-5pm “Virtual Reality Art Experience by LFPL”
Our dear friends from the Louisville Free Public Library invites you to come experience Virtual Reality in a new way. Create virtual 3D art in a unique VR “studio” where you sculpt in real-time with invisible light and intangible shapes. Not to be missed!

3pm-5pm “Beading Workshop – How to Create Pyramids”
Ancient Egypt has nothing on us. Join Nadine Anderson for a workshop creating 3D beaded pyramids. Mysterious curses not included.

5pm “Cards…In…Spaaace”
Join Lily Alanna in creating a miniature space painting of epic proportions. Using an altered playing card as your canvas, create art in five minutes* or less.
(*Actual painting times may vary.)

7pm “Life Drawing”
Bring your sketchbook and draw with us! Clothed figures in gesture poses, short poses, and one 25-minute pose. Drawing supplies provided.

8pm “Opening Ceremonies”
It’s your first chance to meet Artist Guest of Honor Stephen Hickman. Join us in welcoming all the 2018 Guests of Honor, Featured Guests, Returning Guests … Oh heck, it’s just a big fandom family reunion. Come see who’s here this year!

10:30pm “Exquisite Corpse”
A group-drawing extravaganza. Can’t draw? Doesn’t matter! Seemingly unconnected pieces of a drawing combine to make an amazing picture. Come and contribute to the awesomeness!

SATURDAY, MARCH 30

Artist Guest of Honor Stephen Hickman and ConGlomeration favorite Melissa Gay work together to produce art right before your very eyes. Prepare to be amazed / enchanted / unsettled. We make no promises.

1pm “Science Fiction Pictionary”
Join Stephen Hickman, Kevin Ward, Cris Griffin and other attending artists as they put their skills to the test in a game of sci-fi-themed Pictionary. Will they crack under the pressure? Art Show maven Lynn Harris will emcee the event with her usual style and grace.

Artist Guest of Honor Stephen Hickman regales us with stories about his long and distinguished career in the science fiction and fantasy art field. Lots of pictures included.

3pm-5pm “Painting Reflective Surfaces”
Is your knight’s armor getting dingy? Does your spaceship need its chrome touched up? Fear not! Join Kevin Ward for a workshop on painting reflective surfaces in acrylic. Shiny! Limited to 8 participants. Unlimited observers.

4pm “KidCON: Stephen Hickman”
Join Artist Guest of Honor Stephen Hickman for some creative shenanigans with the under-age-13 members of our convention.

7pm “Art and Charity Auction / Awards”
The grand finale of the 2018 ConGlomeration Art Show. Bid early, Bid often. Don’t get ‘sniped’ out of that piece of art you really want. Don’t miss out on all the awesome charity items. Don’t bid against the Con Co-Chair….wait, who wrote that here?

8pm-10pm “ConGlomeration 2018 Cosplay Masquerade
Show off your wearable art, or just see the stunning artistic cosplay designs and performances of your fellow fans as ConGlomeration presents the culmination of our Cosplay programming track, the 2018 Cosplay Masquerade.

SUNDAY, APRIL 1

10am-1pm “Art and Charity Items Pickup”
Come pickup your winnings. Grab that gotta-have print for home. Take one last look at the award-winning art from the show. Oh, and say bye to the new artist friends you have made.

NOTE: Art show items will be available for early pickup immediately following the Art Show Charity Auction on Saturday night. Auction-exempted prints can be picked up immediately after purchase.

TL;DR don’t wait until the last minute to claim your art.

11am “Guests of Honor Last Call”
A final chance for you to ask that one other question of any of our Guests of Honor — including Artist Guest of Honor Stephen Hickman — take that last selfie, get that last autograph. Or maybe, just say thanks…until we meet again.
