Les Johnson BooksConGlomeration’s 2017 Authors & Publishing (A/P) programming lineup includes panels and workshops to help you generate story ideas, hone your writing craft and — just maybe — find a way to get profitably published. All this, plus the prose and wisdom of our 2017 Author Guest of Honor Les Johnson, along with a host of independent press publishers, authors, and editors.

If you ever dreamed of going pro as a writer — sci-fi, fantasy, horror or otherwise — ConGlomeration’s Authors & Publishers track is the place to be April 7-9.

You can view our complete program lineup here.

FRIDAY, APRIL 7

6pm: “The Amazon Effect”
How Amazon has changed the publishing landscape and what that means to both authors and traditional publishing (Panel: Les Johnson Author GoH, Lynn West Editor in Chief Dreamspinner Press, Eric Beebe Post-Mortem Press, et al. Moderator: Keith Bratcher)

7pm: Dinner Break

8pm: ConGlomeration 2017 Opening Ceremonies
And so it begins: Welcome all our Guests of Honor to ConGlomeration 2017, meet a few of the staff responsible (for better or for worse) for this year’s convention, and maybe even get the skinny on a few “unofficial” parties and events.

9pm-11pm: “Author Alley: Author Meet, Greet (& Maybe Sign)”
Join us right after Opening Ceremonies conclude for a chance to casually interact with our Author Guest of Honor, Les Johnson, as well as other attending authors to include Geoffrey Girard, Lydia Sherrer, and many more. Want to get something signed? Here’s your chance. Want to ask a burning question? Here’s that chance as well.

SATURDAY, APRIL 8

9am: “Self-Publishing Without Pity”
Eric Beebe leads a discussion of ‘the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’ aspects of self-publishing. A Panel/workshop for newbies on how NOT to get taken by the SelfPub companies and how to be sure your book can compete.

10am: “I Could Totally Kill You With This”
Emmy Jackson leads a discussion on how to incorporate improvisation into writing. From weapons to survival scenarios, how to make your stories stand out but not be discounted as too outlandish.

11am: “Putting Science in Fiction”
Join Les Johnson, Lynn West, Emmy Jackson and our other panelists in a discussion regarding the importance of ‘getting it right’ when it comes to technical data in a story.

12pm: Lunch Break
Eat; it’s good for you. Also, eat something good for you.

1pm: “No Nonsense, No Gimmick Book Marketing”
Eric Beebe presents a panel/workshop based on the 5 Ps of Marketing and how you can adapt them to the current environment.

2pm: “Collaborative Writing”
Join Les Johnson and Lynn West on a discussion on the strengths and challenges inherent in collaborative writing.

3pm: “Tropes and Wanks
Emmy Jackson leads a discussion on the use of standard tropes as a plot device.

4pm: “Fury Road is not Dieselpunk”
Emmy Jackson discusses how post-apocalyptic fiction is different from alternative fiction and why it matters to the author and the reader.

5pm-7pm: Dinner Break
Leave the building; consume healthy foodstuffs. It’s go-time.

7pm: “Author Alley: Author Meet, Greet (& Maybe Sign)”
Come meet Author Guest of Honor, Les Johnson, as well as other attending authors to include Geoffrey Girard, Lydia Sherrer, and many more. Want to get something signed? Here’s your chance. Want to ask a burning question? Here’s that chance as well.

8pm: Cosplay Masquerade
This year’s Masquerade will be epic. After all, the Klingon High Chancellor is one of the judges and Il Troubadour is performing the half-time show. Being less than stellar might be painful this year. Bring on your best act and cosplay to win the day…er, night!!

SUNDAY, APRIL 9

10am: “Cars as Characters”
How an inanimate object can take on a life of its’ own in a story. No, not talking about Lightning McQueen here. Discussion with Emmy Jackson.

11am: “Authors & Publishers Final Notes”
How did we do? What should we add for next year? This is the chance to let us know. Oh, and also a chance to thank all those who participated.

12pm: ConGlomeration 2017 Closing Ceremonies
Come bid adieu to all our Guests of Honor, including Author GoH Les Johnson, and send ConGlomeration 2017 out with a hearty fare-thee-well.
