Announcing the ConGlomeration 2011 Artist Guest of Honor Kristin Kest

Kristin Kest
For almost twenty years Kristin Kest has worked as a freelance illustrator creating the images for over 30 children’s educational / science books. Her work has been selected for a number of the annual Society of Illustrators Shows as well as cover art for the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.

In addition to her illustration career, Kest maintains a lively exhibition schedule and also teaches the illustration course at her alma mater, York College of Pennsylvania, where she stresses to her students the importance of cultivating one’s storytelling abilities as the key to effective visual communication. She also likes to snowboard, tour on her bicycle, and play yak polo with her Ashkenazim relatives.

Kest's idea of a "Book Werm"
Kest’s work has undergone a transformation from science to science fiction, a consequence of her master’s work at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in drawing and feminist methodology. The work looks to subvert the gender expectations of any given tale and seeks to give voice to hidden aspects of a (woman’s) story that are almost always glossed over or sanitized.

Kest is always looking for like-minded people who share her ideas, can drive a manual shift vehicle, and fold an origami pangolin. She lives with her partner of 14 years in an old log house in Dillsburg, PA, with 3 cats. You can view selections from her portfolio at www.kestillustration.com.
